Publishers (and readers) need to get over the “this book is out of date” issue — there’s nothing that can be done about that.
Instead publishers should be pouring their resources into the writers/researchers to see that the finished product is, well, as good as guidebooks used to be. Send a newbie writer on a bum wage to write an entire book on a country they’ve never been to before and you’ll end up with a rubbish product.
They need to get back to basics, employing great writers (and yes, paying them great money), who really know their stuff and who can deliver premium content.
